London Fashion Week Report: The Topshop Unique Show
By Alannah Sparks

Philip Green pulled out the big guns for the Topshop SS10 presentation, and the result was a stellar front row. Everyone for the old brigade (Twiggy, Erin O’Connell) to the glamorous neophytes (Chung, Lezark), to the big old superstars (Kate Moss) came to support the show.
With an eye-squintingly bright LED backdrop the show was an unabashed, riotous, rip-roarious return to the Eighties. Acid-wash denim? Check. Crop top and bicycle shorts? Check. Iron-on patches and be-ribboned side ponytails? Check, check, check. Punky Brewster would have been proud.
But however much the overall styling appealed to the young at heart, there were some key pieces that offered real substance for those more serious about style setting. Body-skimming maxi dresses in acid-colored geometric patterns are no doubt going to be a key shape come summer, and a slate grey romper suit brought an unusually sophisticated edge to the often puerile piece.
The classic Topshop pieces were delivered with the usual flair -– brightly patterned Ra-Ra skirts and sharply cut blazers will keep the majority of their fan base happy.
We can leave the chiffon leggings and rubber shorts to the hardcore Unique gals.

About Last Night... The Costume Institute Gala: "The Model As Muse"
By Caroline Torem-Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all

Last night's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala, "The Model As Muse," was a little like an unexpected blizzard... First a few snowflakes, large enough so you can see their patterns, then a fine flurry of flakes criss-crossing in front of you, and finally, so many, coming so fast your field of vision is obliterated! Contrary to rumors circulating that Naomi wasn't coming, that Karl was boycotting and that everyone would be cutting back, last night may have been the grandest gala, the most star-studded of all! Highlights of the evening included:
First to arrive, host and hostess Marc Jacobs and the Girl Golden, Kate Moss. The evening really started off with a wham, bam, thank you, ma'am!
Stella McCartney playfully pinching Kate Hudson's ass!
Madonna, with an outrageous, turquoise, bird-like hair-hat, rock 'n' rolling up the stairs!
Leighton Meester, clad in an "OMFG" Louis Vuitton jester's outfit.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel smooching in public.
Tyra Banks, "feeling like a woman," and looking vaguely like Grace Jones.

About Last Night... Topshop/Topman Opening, Part III
By Caroline Torem-Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all

Yesterday morning, promptly at 11 a.m., the front door slowly opened to reveal Sir Phillip Green and Kate Moss on a pedastal, looking like a wedding cake topper, officially christening the Topshop/Topman store in SoHo. It was pretty amazing to see Broadway closed to traffic from Broome to Grand, one could almost hear cries of "the British are coming!" Earlier, PAPERMAG had stopped to speak to young, trendy Londoners Francesca, Lucy, Pia, Kate, Toni, Louise and Natasha, who had been camping out on the street, and were the first on line waiting for the store to open. When asked if it was to see Kate Moss or the clothes, in unison they yelled: "The clothes!"
Later that evening, the festivities of the past several days wrapped up at The Box with an after-party of hijinks and high spirits starring Kate Moss, J. Lo, Marc Anthony, Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, The Greens, but no Mickey Boardman, who was among the "missing in action" cause he was in India judging the Miss India pageant!

About Last Night... Topshop/Topman Host Dinner at Balthazar, Part II
By Caroline Torem-Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all

Last night saw the second installment of Topshop/Topman's New York launch, with another fabulous dinner at Balthazar. The weather, intermittent rain à la London, kept even the most persistent paparazzi that hound Kate Moss to a minimum. The supermodel of all supermodels, whose new Topshop line debuts today, dazzled the red carpet, alongside Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Rosario Dawson, Marc Jacobs, among others. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was this morning, which will be followed by a party at The Box tonight, a party so exclusive that each guest must produce a photo ID to attend -- I kid you not!

Freudian Slip: "Lucian Freud on Paper"
By Carol Lee

If you love oversized, arty coffee table books or are simply a fan of the figurative giant Lucien Freud, Rizzoli's "Lucian Freud on Paper" is a must-have. The book, in keeping with Rizzoli standards, is beautifully printed and bound. Between the covers is a chronicle of Freud's works on paper from childhood drawings to recent etchings with mother's scrapbook-like dedication spanning eight decades. It's really interesting to flip through the pages and discover how his style has evolved over the years while always turning up the hyper-human intensity he's so famous for. The master influencer, now 84-years-old, has inspired many art students to pick up figure painting when it was unpopular and Kate Moss to disrobe while pregnant. This book, even for its sheer volume and quality, is worth every penny at $85.

Paris Fashion Week Report: The Fendi Party Feat. The Gossip
By Tihana Ljubojevic
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all
Last night Fendi hosted The Gossip for an half-hour concert at the VIP Room. Lead singer Beth Ditto, after giving the best of her vocal chords, had her makeup retouched by none other than Kate Moss backstage! Kate was swearing that her concealer would take off all of Beth's post-concert pinkiness. We look forward to more beauty tips from Kate...

About Last Night... Let Them Eat Kate at Milk Studios
By Caroline Torem Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all
I am curious how much tongue-in-cheek thought was put into having Agent Provocateur's Let Them Eat Kate affair at Milk (and cookies?) Studio? In any case, let me wrap things up for you, stream-of-consciousness style:
The super-fine Kate Moss casually seated in one corner of the penthouse; intriguing Lake Bell; Vogue’s movie star and fierce redhead Jessica Joffe; Damon Dash (he told me his baby is due next week); rappers Jim Jones and Chink and the Misshapes all at once stepping off the drive-in elevator; later, Zoe Kravitz in a golden-yellow bra/halter top slightly reminiscent of Gaultier’s famous cone-shaped bra made for Madonna, dancing to DJ Jauretsi Saizarbitoria’s fabulous tunes; and Vivienne Westwood’s son, Agent Provacatuer’s principal Joe Corre at this hot, cool, sweet, fly, fashionable, swell, sexually-charged, fresh and dope party!

About Last Night... The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala
By Caroline Torem Craig
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all
Clowns to the left of me, superheroes to the right, here I am wedged in the middle of a fashion fantasy! Andrew Bolton, Harold Koda, Anna Wintour, Giorgio Armani and other playful minds created a truly sensational gala at the Met last night. Swarming like bees, celebrity guests arrived on top of each other, forcing the press to make choices. “Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are coming!! Get these B-list celebs to move on!” Rarely does New York host a celebrity mob scene like this. There was a take no prisoners attitude both in the costumes, accessories and attitudes of the guests and the press. Wham, bam, thank you, maam!

About Last Night: CFDA's 7th on Sale Gala
By Caroline Torem Craig
Last night the floodgates opened to the resounding roar of celebrities sashaying in all their glory lighting up the miserable old Lexington Armory for the CFDA's 7th on Sale Gala. The air was giddy with perfume and excitement in the cavernous space which is stocked with donated designer goods to be sold at a fraction of their cost benefiting AIDS Research.
It was the best attended party this decade! Think the Oscars meets the MET’s Costume Institute Gala with a dash of the the MTV Video Music Awards. Let me just drop some drop-dead names—Kate Moss,Kate Bosworth ,Bette Midler, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elle Macpherson, Valentino, Naomi Campbell, Dita Von Teese, Eve, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Jennifer Connelly, Parker Posey! Ok, I have to stop, but it was truly an amazing night! See for yourself below!

Stella McCartney for Adidas Launch Party
By Mickey Boardman

How's this for a superstar/rock 'n' roll/ fashion trio? Courtney Love and Kate Moss sandwich Stella McCartney at the party for Stella's fabulous Adidas line in London. Mr. Mickey wears sneakers by Stella M for Adidas. Yes they're ladies, but MM is cruelty free and has a hard time finding super-fashiony trainers for mens (this is not a typo, it's a funny attempt to talk all hip-hop)! So sue me!!!! Anyway, these girls are gorgeous.
After the jump see another superstar duo at the same party.

About Last Night... Kirsten, Cameron & Jessica at the Met's Costume Institute Gala
By Alexis Swerdloff

Here's a report and photos from our nightlife photographer Caroline Torem Craig, who was out till 4 a.m. (!) last night covering the celeb-studded Costume Institute Gala at the Met....
The spectacle of a huge birdcage filled with living peacocks (and -- thank God -- not disco dancers) greeted the fabulous fashionistas at the annual spring gala last night.
A massive tent to end all tents housed photographers, reporters and videographers, who were all clamoring to record and report the arrivals of our current kings and queens of Fashion.
As the red carpet was fast and furiously polluted with publicists, it was such a challenge to photograph this rapidly moving feast. If one was concentrating on Cameron Diaz or a voluptuous, brunette Jessica Simpson (pictured above, with Roberto Cavalli), one was inadvertently ignoring the camera-shy Kate Moss or Donatella Versace.
It wasn't until a whole bank of photographers booed and screamed at Kirsten Dunst that she stopped for a brief moment, to allow a few photos to be taken.
Each year, there are a few sights that "shall remain" and this year, one was Lucy Liu in a Zac Posen creation. Liu's train, hand manipulated at every other step by Zac himself, turned into a walking portrait. It was poetry in motion.

Kate Moss, Art Muse
By David Hershkovits

Kate Moss's Topshop line makes its U.S. debut tomorrow at Barney's. Many early reviews for her Topshop line have been less than flattering, but there's no accounting for taste, so expect to see these items flying off the racks. The cash registers will be ringing not only for Moss and Barneys, where it will be among the cheapest items sold in the store, but also for artist Marc Quinn. Quinn's sculptures of Moss in various yoga positions are on display at the Mary Boone Gallery through June 30. This is far from the first time Moss has served as muse for artists. Artcritical reminds us that W, following in the footsteps of British Vogue, commissioned artists and photographers to immortalize the uber model waif as well. The list of artists (not commercial photographers) who have used her in their work include Chuck Close, Lucian Freud, Alex Katz, Lisa Yuskavage, Richard Prince, Chapman Brothers, Gary Hume and Tom Sachs.

Eight Items or Less: Tracy Morgan SCRAMs, Vanity Fair Discovers Yoga and Pete Wentz Gets His East Village on Tonight
By Alexis Swerdloff

1. It's an exciting time to be English. Kate Moss’s Top Shop line debuts tomorrow! According to Reuters, “To try prevent fights among shoppers when the doors open, each person will be able to buy only five items.”
2. Apparently, Vanity Fair is running a “yoga spread” with high-profile yogaphiles (Donna Karan, Sting and Trudie Styler, Ali MacGraw, etc.) for their June issue. Doesn’t that seem very 1997 to you?
3. Ben Brantley gives new musical Legally Blonde a pretty middling review in the Times today calling it superficial, potentially anti-lesbian and compares watching the show to eating candy. While a cute comparison, he took the candy metaphor and ran with it in a serious way. In the first three grafs alone, he mentions that audience members might want to floss between songs, and dropped M&Ms, Hershey’s, empty-calories, Gummi-Bears and “confectionary charms.” We get it, it’s candy-like. No need to hit us over the head.
4. We’ve never heard of a SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring) bracelet before, but apparently Tracy Morgan has to wear one! A result of a DUI charge and a subsequent probation violation, Morgan will have to wear a SCRAM for the next 90 days that will check his blood alcohol content every 30 minutes. How Orwellian! Now that Alec Baldwin may not return to 30 Rock for a second season, we especially hope that Morgan doesn’t mess up and drink, because a 30 Rock without Baldwin and Morgan would be no 30 Rock at all!
5. So long dodgeball, hello Dance Dance Revolution. According to the New York Times, gym teachers across the country are using the Japanese video game Dance Dance Revolution in P.E. classes. The article suggests that “more than 1,500 schools are expected to be using the game by the end of the decade.”
6. Tonight’s the opening of the Pete Wentz/Gym Class Heroes bar in the East Village… Look out for Wentz’s GF Ashlee Simpson on Avenue A.
7. Feist’s The Reminder received a whopping score of 8.8 on Pitchfork today. Go, Feist, go!

Eight Items or Less: Kate Moss, Pete Doherty and Ryan McGinley Get Down
By Carol Lee

1. Who would be in your dream threesome? According to the rumor mill, heartthrob photographer Ryan McGinley just shot Kate Moss and BF Pete Doherty nude for the upcoming issue of W.
2. Art stars of today Elizabeth Peyton, Tony Just, Maurizio Cattalan, Dan Colen, Cecily Brown and Clarissa Dalrymple all came out for the Turner Prize winner Brit Jim Lambie's opening at Anton Kern Gallery last Thursday.
3. Fergie's lady humps were caught in high-waisted body-squeezing jeans by Judi Rosen of downtown boutique The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as reported by the fashion bible In Touch.
4. Vogue's Alexandra Kotur has a tough job of deciding who makes Style.com's Ten Best Dressed List each week. Look who made the cut last week!
1) Kirsten Dunst
2) Chloe Sevigny
3) Miuccia Prada
4) Coco Rocha
5) Doo-Ri Chung
6) Lisa Airan
7) Hilary Rhoda
8) Camilla Belle
9) Lauren DuPont
10) Demi Moore
5. Name Change: On a more, delicate note... Over this weekend, when rendering the Virginia Tech shooter's name, The New York Times decided to go by Seung-Hui Cho, rather than the easternized-style Cho Seung-Hui, which has been the official name used by the media world-wide since the release of his identity. There have been many whispers on the Internet among sensitive Korean-Americans about this uncouth placement of his surname.

Sneak Peek at Looks from Kate Moss for Topshop
By Carol Lee

Kate Moss for Topshop is almost here (Yayee!) -- May 1st. I can't think of a non-designer who's more qualified to have her own collection than Kate Moss. She is the most fantabulous model of our time and is a bona-fide style icon who arguably has more influence on how young women want to dress than Anna Wintour. So needless to say, it is so exciting to see what Miss Moss has pulled from the lot of her own favorite outfits to cull together a line for Topshop this spring! Here's a sneak peek at the best of the Kate Moss for Topshop look book which is all about Kate and her BFF Irina Lazareanu playing dress-up!! Hint: Expect signature Kate Moss items such as cropped skinny jeans, tuxedo vests, vingtage-esque mini-dresses and an overall rock 'n' roll, sexy vibe with a splash of modern boheme.
And go to this web site (katemosstopshop.com) for more on Kate and Irina!!!
p.s. For those of us who are not going to be across the Atlantic near a real Topshop store, you can go nuts on their web site.
