LA Fashion Week: David Alexander
By J. Everette Perry

L.A.'s Broadway District was brought back to life with David Alexander's dazzling runway show last night. You might recognize David's designs from seeing them on celebs like Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Kim Kardashian, and most recently Megan Fox -- who was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone in a very inviting swimsuit by Alexander. David told me that he found inspiration in Kar Wai Wong's trippy sci-fi film, 2046, some of which takes place in the '60s, and the historic Los Angeles Theatre was a perfect setting to highlight the designer's futuristic, retro looks. He also said he's influenced by Italian screen siren Monica Bellucci, describing her as having "a truly romantic and obscure beauty that actually sets the standards on how I select my models. I also believe Janelle Monae has played a slight role. She has an amazing voice and a sort of hip-hop flapper style."
Too bad Janelle wasn't there to orchestrate the music -- the venue's sound technician twice dropped the ball with utter silence during transitions. But the models still strutted in Alexander's shimmering sequin-adorned dresses and, at the end of the night, applause rang from the crowd.

FWF Report From the Stuart Weitzman Store Opening
By Rebecca Prusinowski
There are more photos in this gallery. View them all
Throughout this here Fashion Week if you happen upon PAPERMAG scribe Rebecca Prusinowski, and see her averting her eyes -- don't think that she's ignoring you! She's just checking out your feet for her new column, the Fashion Week Footwear Report, which we've conveniently shortened to the FWF Report. Here's her first installment.
After an interior design overhaul, Stuart Weitzman re-opened his NYC flagship store on Madison Avenue Wednesday night. White ribbon shelving that wrapped around the store showcased his latest footwear, and here’s what we observed:
Purple is still super-hot, making its way from separates last season down to footwear this season.
Leopard print accessories are still roaring; check out the suede collection above.
Stuart Weitzman’s studded footwear has taken biker-chic up a notch.
Even though they’re unflattering on most gals’ legs, ankle boots can not be stopped! Weitzman varies the trend with innovative sculpting and some cool mid-calf designs.

De-Stressing at Signorelli
By Whitney Spaner

Sometimes life is so stressful in the city, a girl just needs to be pampered. So last week I visited the relatively new Signorelli Spa (opened last year) and if my journalism salary allowed, I’d go back every week. It’s hidden on the quiet Upper East Side block of 66th St. between Madison and Park in an unassuming apartment building. The spa itself is small and split between two floors, but it also has two outside spaces -- one on the first floor where ladies who lunch can relax before or after undergoing a routine facial or a glamorous dermaplanting session (similar to a chemical peel minus the chemicals done by the cute and multi-talented hair/makeup artist Robert), and on the 5th floor there is a cabana (pictured above) where you can get your treatment in an urban resort setting.

I got a massage (in the room pictured above) by the lovely Ellen who worked my kinks out with lava stones and her specialty ortho-bionomy which is gentle movements of the body that help put everything back in place. She explained that the technique is especially helpful to people who are in too much pain for the pressure of a regular massage. It’s as if your body were a puzzle with pieces coming loose from time to time that need to be guided back in.

Eight Items or Less: Tracy Morgan SCRAMs, Vanity Fair Discovers Yoga and Pete Wentz Gets His East Village on Tonight
By Alexis Swerdloff

1. It's an exciting time to be English. Kate Moss’s Top Shop line debuts tomorrow! According to Reuters, “To try prevent fights among shoppers when the doors open, each person will be able to buy only five items.”
2. Apparently, Vanity Fair is running a “yoga spread” with high-profile yogaphiles (Donna Karan, Sting and Trudie Styler, Ali MacGraw, etc.) for their June issue. Doesn’t that seem very 1997 to you?
3. Ben Brantley gives new musical Legally Blonde a pretty middling review in the Times today calling it superficial, potentially anti-lesbian and compares watching the show to eating candy. While a cute comparison, he took the candy metaphor and ran with it in a serious way. In the first three grafs alone, he mentions that audience members might want to floss between songs, and dropped M&Ms, Hershey’s, empty-calories, Gummi-Bears and “confectionary charms.” We get it, it’s candy-like. No need to hit us over the head.
4. We’ve never heard of a SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring) bracelet before, but apparently Tracy Morgan has to wear one! A result of a DUI charge and a subsequent probation violation, Morgan will have to wear a SCRAM for the next 90 days that will check his blood alcohol content every 30 minutes. How Orwellian! Now that Alec Baldwin may not return to 30 Rock for a second season, we especially hope that Morgan doesn’t mess up and drink, because a 30 Rock without Baldwin and Morgan would be no 30 Rock at all!
5. So long dodgeball, hello Dance Dance Revolution. According to the New York Times, gym teachers across the country are using the Japanese video game Dance Dance Revolution in P.E. classes. The article suggests that “more than 1,500 schools are expected to be using the game by the end of the decade.”
6. Tonight’s the opening of the Pete Wentz/Gym Class Heroes bar in the East Village… Look out for Wentz’s GF Ashlee Simpson on Avenue A.
7. Feist’s The Reminder received a whopping score of 8.8 on Pitchfork today. Go, Feist, go!
